Wren, Annie, and Varda all passed the three coursing ability tests required to obtain their Coursing Ability (CA) title. The CAT course is a basic rectangle, with no turns more acute than 90 degrees. Dogs must complete the course "with enthusiasm and without interruption" within a set time limit to pass. For dogs above 12" at the withers the course is 600 yards long and the dogs must complete the course in no more than 2 minutes. Our girls were easily the biggest dogs at all the meets and lots of people were surprised to see a mastiff in this type of event. But once they took off after the lure, it's was obvious to everyone that these mastiffs can run! It's quite an impressive sight seeing a 120 pound dog running the length of 6 football fields in hot pursuit of its prey.
